How to Reheat Sticky Rice in the Microwave?
When it comes to reheating sticky rice, I tend to do so in a microwave since I’m quite lazy, besides it reheats fast. Aside from being convenient and quick, your leftover rice reheated in a microwave can give you wonderful results. So, if you want to give yourself a proper treat, make sure you follow the exact steps I tell you:
- Make sure you use a microwave-safe bowl to avoid any potential hazards.
- Put your leftover sticky rice into the bowl.
- Add a small amount of water to the bowl with your sticky rice to create steam that helps to rehydrate the rice.
- Cover the bowl with a damp paper towel to help trap in the moisture and prevent the rice from drying out.
- Set your microwave to high and cook the rice for 1 to 2 minutes.
- After the first minute, stop the microwave and check your rice. Therefore, if it’s still cold you could give it a stir and return it to the microwave.
- Continue microwaving the rice in 30-second intervals until it’s heated thoroughly.
- When you think the rice is done, use a fork to check if it’s heated through. Therefore, If it’s still cold in the middle you may continue microwaving for another 30 seconds.
- Once the rice is heated through, use a fork to fluff the rice. This helps to separate the grains and prevent them from clumping together.
- Your reheated sticky rice is now ready to serve. Add it to your favorite dish or enjoy it on its own!
Reheating sticky rice on a stove isn’t too different from reheating it in a microwave. Except this time, you may get a much crispier flavor. Personally, I think this is the best way to reheat your sticky rice. In case you wanted to get the same crispy and sticky texture my rice had, follow these steps:
- First place a pan on top of the stove and turn the heat up. Personally, I would prefer using a non-stick pan.
- Add a little bit of water to make your rice sticky and soggy again.
- After turning the heat up place your sticky rice onto the pan.
- Continue shuffling your rice around the pan to even it out. Repeat this for at least 2~3 minutes.
- Before closing the pan, break up any clumps that are inside. Therefore, it lets the rice heat up evenly.
- Close the pan and let it steam for 5~10 minutes.
- After letting the rice set for about 5~10 minutes, check up on it to see how its doing.
- If the rice is warm all over and not cold, serve it and enjoy with whatever you like!
- To get a crispy texture like my preference, simply leave it to fry with a bit of oil for about 2~3 minutes. (optional)
Can You Reheat Sticky Rice In A Slow Cooker?
Of course, you can reheat rice in a slow cooker, why can’t you? The only difference you might notice between a slow cooker and the other two options is that it takes time. Though this isn’t my favorite method to reheat rice it still produces a steamy treat! I get that this is probably a popular way of reheating sticky rice. Therefore, these are the steps you should follow to get a very gummy rice:
- Take your leftover rice and put it into the cooker with a little amount of water.
- Use a spoon to then stir the rice around inside of the cooker to even it out.
- Cover the rice up and cook it on a low temperature.
- Check up on the rice after 1 to 2 hours to see if the rice is heated thoroughly.
- Continue to fluff the rice using a fork to separate the grains from it.
- Conclusively, once your rice is heated you can serve and enjoy the delicacy!
Occasionally, just to spice my meal up, I would add bonito flakes to my rice to give it a zesty after taste.
How to Reheat Rice in a Rice Cooker?
It’s quite simple really; I normally reheat my sticky rice in a rice cooker whenever I visit a friend. Follow these steps to get the best results:

- Add 1-2 tablespoons of water to your leftover rice.
- Thereafter you could mix the rice and water well to ensure even heating.
- Place the rice in the rice cooker bowl.
- Close the lid and plug in the rice cooker.

- Moreover, you may allow the rice to heat up for 5-10 minutes.
- Thereafter you can check the rice to make sure it’s heated through.
